City pilots innovative MyCiTi bus traffic signalling system

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, joined the team responsible for transport network technology yesterday, 10 May 2022 as they were switching on one of the newly installed bus signals along Blaauwberg Road, Table View. These signals form part of the pilot project to test a new bus traffic signal system for the MyCiTi bus service.

MyCiTi tests new bus traffic signals in Table View

MyCiTi will test a new system of bus traffic signals at four intersections on Blaauwberg Road in Table View from 10 May 2022. Road users are urged to continue to follow the general traffic signals that apply to them, and to approach the intersections with caution while the trial is underway.

City reopens Grey and Neptune MyCiTi stations

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be reopening the MyCiTi Grey and Neptune stations on Saturday, 14 May 2022, in response to passenger demand. The two stations were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions on movement.

Thousands of commuters enjoying MyCiTi N2 Express daily

The MyCiTi N2 Express has transported over 52 000 passengers since the reinstatement of the service on 19 February 2022, with around 3 000 passengers making use of the service every week day. The N2 Express has only been reinstated for seven weeks and already more than 18 400 myconnect cards, used to commute on the service, have been purchased by commuters from both Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha.

New MyCiTi stop proposed in Atlantis

The City of Cape Town intends to introduce a new MyCiTi stop in the Atlantis network. The proposed new stop, called Nicobar, would be located at the intersection of Meermin and Nicobar Streets.

Return of N2 express brings much relief to commuters

A few thousand residents from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha commuted on the N2 Express service within the first nine days of the service’s return to the Metro-south east. A total of 11 502 passengers from both Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha commuted on the N2 Express buses from 19 February to 28 February 2022.

Passengers, bus driver safe after MyCiTi bus caught fire

At around 15:15 today, 22 February 2022, the City was informed that a MyCiTi bus was on fire at the Woodstock MyCiTi station. The fire brigade was called out for assistance. We can confirm that nobody was injured and that an investigation is underway to determine the causes.

MyCiTi Fare Increase – 1 March 2022
