City hosting public information days about MyCiTi-related construction in Philippi

The City of Cape Town invites residents and interested and affected parties to information days to learn more about the upcoming construction work along Govan Mbeki Road as part of the roll-out of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service in the metro-south east. The information days will be hosted in Lentegeur, Philippi, Gugulethu, and Khayelitsha where the public will hear about how the City intends to keep Cape Town moving with the expansion of the MyCiTi bus service.

Reversible MyCiTi bus lane to help passengers avoid peak congestion

MyCiTi station Phoenix renamed to Freedom

The MyCiTi station being rebuilt on Omuramba Road near Joe Slovo will be named Freedom station. This follows a public participation process confirming support for the proposed name change from “Phoenix” to “Freedom”, and Council approval on 12 June 2024. Thank you to our passengers and residents for your help in making this decision.

Minor timetable changes as of Saturday 15 June 2024

MyCiTi stops affected by roadworks in Mitchells Plain

The Sesame, Highlands and Marguerite stops in Mitchells Plain will be affected by construction of MyCiTi infrastructure from 8 June 2024 for a period of 9 months. Passengers are advised to use temporary stops to access routes D03/D04 and to factor in extra travel time.

MyCiTi construction work to commence along Turfhall Road

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will soon commence with major construction work along Turfhall Road in the Lansdowne area as part of the roll-out of the MyCiTi bus service to connect commuters from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont. The project will take about three years to complete.

Major MyCiTi Spine Road depot construction project now 65% complete

The City of Cape Town’s construction of two new MyCiTi depots on the corner of Spine Road and Mew Way between Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain is now 65% complete and on track to conclude by May 2025. Construction was initially delayed by several weeks due to extortion attempts, but this lost time has been made up by the contractor working extended hours and on weekends. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis conducted a progress site visit at the depot on Friday, 14 March together with Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.

New stops in Khayelitsha, Atlantis and Woodstock
