MyCiTi Fare Increase – 1 November 2022
MyCiTi fares increase on 1 November 2022
MyCiTi fares will increase on 1 November 2022 due to significant increases in the cost of diesel since the current fares took effect on 1 July 2022. Fares are adjusted at the start of each financial year, on 1 July, in response to the latest cost projections for planned services, including the price of fuel.
However, the annual Council-approved tariffs also require that fares must be increased or decreased during a financial year where there are significant and sustained fuel price changes.
This protects passengers from paying too much when the fuel price decreases substantially during the course of a financial year. It also protects the City from ongoing losses when the fuel price increases considerably.
As such, the MyCiTi tariffs include different sets of fares that must apply in the event of specific increases and decreases to the fuel price. Once the conditions set out in the tariffs are met, the new fares must take effect at the start of November or the following March, whichever is sooner.
Despite a recent drop in the price of diesel, the required conditions for a mandatory increase to MyCiTi fares have been met and these will be effective from 1 November 2022.
