West Coast offers more than a dayâs fun
2016-10-27
MyCiTi’s T01 route from Cape Town to Table View and Dunoon stops within walking distance of beaches, braai and picnic spots, a national monument, market, race track and indoor trampoline park. You’ll need a few days to fit in everything. Hop aboard and join in on the fun.
Catch the bus to Table View station and you’ll be greeted by artist Alan Munro’s “South-Easter Bunnys” on the station’s glass walls. The spelling is a play on the strong winds which is a familiar feature in the area and Robben Island being overrun by rabbits at the time the artwork was commissioned in 2010.
From there move on to Milnerton Waterpark which offers braai facilities, a swimming pool, mini golf and chess. If you’re not in the mood for swimming, get off at Grey station and visit the Rietvlei Wetlands, which has picnic spots and braai facilities. Here you’ll be able to do birdwatching, go for a walk, sail or windsurf.
Go bargain hunting at the Milnerton Flea Market, which is held on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The market is free, and child friendly. Your closest stop is Zoarvlei station. This station is also within walking distance to Klein Zoar or German-born Wolraad Woltemade’s house which was declared a national monument in 1971. Woltemade saved 14 people from drowning but succumbed to drowning during this rescue mission in 1773.
If you’re after something a bit more exciting, release some pent up energy at Jump Around, a vibrant indoor trampoline park. After you’ve worked up an appetite, go for a bite to eat at the on-site café.
For a real adrenaline rush hop off at Killarney station and head over to Killarney Race Track and do a few laps around the track, or book a horse-riding lesson at the nearby Milnerton Riding School.
Whether you choose to explore with or without the kids, the activities along MyCiTi’s T01 route will keep you busy. You might even need more than one day to fit everything in!
