Single-trip card dispensers for stations

These cards were introduced in October 2014 as an alternative to purchasing a myconnect card. Ideal for occasional users and visitors, single-trip cards have proven very popular, with more than 1 000 sold in the first two weeks.Single-trip card dispensing machines are now available at stations.

Some stations have two dispensing machines. One machine will dispense single-trip cards for R30 each, valid for one journey anywhere on the system except the Airport, including transfers at stops and stations along the way. The other machine will dispense single-trip cards costing R75 each, which include journeys to or from the Airport. Passengers must buy two single-trip cards if they intend making a return journey.These self-help terminals are aimed at making it more convenient to access the MyCiTi service, particularly for people who don’t wish to buy a myconnect card, or are at a station where there is either no operational kiosk or where the kiosk is closed.

To use the machines, passengers need to simply insert money into the machine and the card will be automatically issued. The dispensers accept coins and notes. The exact amount is required as no change will be issued.

Because single-trip cards are only valid for one journey, they cannot be reloaded with money. Passengers are encouraged to dispose of their cards in the special recycling bins provided at stations once they have completed their journey.
