Work is set to start in March with rebuilding Freedom station, formerly Phoenix, along Omuramba Road in the Joe Slovo area.

The site will be cordoned off until construction is complete in early 2026. A public participation process confirmed support for the name change from “Phoenix” to “Freedom”, which was approved by Council in June 2024.

Work is also advancing with the rebuild of the previously damaged Dunoon and Usasaza stations. All new MyCiTi station designs include enhanced security and vandal-resistant measures to help protect this investment for the benefit of local residents in each area.
