Every year, on 1 July, the MyCiTi fares are adjusted following the conclusion of the City of Cape Town’s annual budget process that takes into account the latest cost projections for providing services over the year ahead.

Herewith a summary of notable changes that takes effect on 1 July 2024:

  • A new myconnect card will cost R40. Passengers replacing their expiring cards will still only pay R22 at a kiosk.
  • Mover fares will increase in response to the growing cost of providing services.
  • Our multi-trip products remain great value for money. The Monthly Pass will increase by only R10 to R1000 and is ideally suited to our many loyal passengers who commute daily.
  • Passengers won’t pay any more for penalties incurred when they don’t tap in and out correctly.

The MyCiTi fares also make provision for changes during the financial year based on significant changes to the cost of diesel. This helps protect passengers from paying too much if the cost of diesel is reduced and protects the City from ongoing losses if the cost of diesel continues to increase significantly.
