MyCiTi drivers to the rescue
2016-06-24
Two MyCiTi drivers recently came to the rescue of an 82-year old woman after her car was badly damaged in a collision with another vehicle. So thankful was Julie Viviers, the daughter of Dorothy Viviers, that she sent an email to MyCiTi’s management conveying the family’s ‘sincerest thanks’.
She thanked MyCiTI drivers Dennis Mbola and Asanda Racaza, saying her mother had not been in an accident for 22 years. The impact of the vehicle hitting the car was so hard that the motorbike next to it was also knocked over. When the other driver started reversing away, the off-duty drivers, who had seen everything, jumped into action, offering to be witnesses if needed.
‘Not only did they do that, but they were solicitous and kind to my mom. She was, and unfortunately still is, in a state, and heartbroken over her little car. Thankfully she wasn't hurt physically. The two are heroes, and knights in shining armour.’
Dennis and Asanda have been MyCiTi drivers for five and three years respectively. They had this to say about the incident. ‘It happened on the corner of Blaauwberg Road and Pentz Drive, while we were at the Table View holding area. The elderly lady was in tears after being blamed for the accident. We calmed her down and told her not to worry, as we had seen how the accident happened.’
The drivers said they had received the necessary skill training, so they know the processes to follow at accident scenes. They also have first aid training and can assist when needed.
‘We were able to calm down everyone at the scene and assisted them in exchanging details, as well as our own, in case any witnesses were needed.’
