MyCiTi bus driver strike resolved

The City of Cape Town is pleased that the month-long strike by some bus drivers employed by Transpeninsula Investments, a MyCiTi vehicle operating company, has ended. 

Transport for Cape Town, the City’s transport authority, wants to inform commuters that the MyCiTi service is expected to operate normally on all routes as from Monday 9 March 2015, when all of the drivers will return to work.

Thanks to assistance from the drivers who have not been striking and the bus drivers who are employed by the other vehicle operating companies, the impact of the strike has been limited to the inner-city routes where commuters experienced some delays.

‘We are relieved that Transpeninsula Investments and the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union resolved their differences this afternoon with the assistance of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration. I also want to thank our commuters for their patience and understanding. We are committed to providing a world-class public transport service and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the MyCiTi service operates on schedule on the inner-city routes as soon as possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.
