Make MyCiTi part of your life
2017-02-28
Before the summer is over, top up your myconnect card and head out with family and friends to enjoy everything that’s great about Cape Town. From the Company’s Gardens in the city centre to the V&A Waterfront, all the way down along the coast to Hout Bay or north to Melkbosstrand, there’s so much to see and do.
Take a picnic to one of our family-friendly beaches, or head for Sea Point to enjoy the Green Point Park, the activities on the seafront and the promenade. You can get an ice-cream, hire a bicycle or simply escape the summer heat in the cool waters of the Pavilion pools. Take advantage of late sunsets by taking a trip up Table Mountain, or sip a cool drink on the harbour’s edge in the Waterfront as the day slips into evening.
There are no worries about traffic or parking and easy transfers from rail, other bus services and taxis to MyCiTi at various points across Cape Town – from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha to Atlantis.
If you are new to MyCiTi, then the quieter weekends are the perfect time to get a myconnect card, load it with money and familiarise yourself with how the system works. It’s really easier than it looks with lots of friendly fellow travellers to show you how to do it. There’s also the option of a single-trip card, available from station kiosks, which takes you one way anywhere on the system. Just remember to buy one for your trip home so you can get on at any bus stop.
Plan your journey beforehand with the easy-to-use trip planner on the website, which you can also access on a smartphone. Enter your nearest stop or transfer point and then where you want to go and the trip planner will do the rest. There’s also a fare calculator so you know exactly how much you’ll pay, and remember that on the weekends there are no peak-hour fares, so you travel at the lower rate all day long.
If you have any queries with routes, timetables, fares or transfers between different modes then call the Transport Information Centre on 0800 65 64 63. Friendly operators are there to assist you every day of the week, 24 hours a day in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa. Happy travelling aboard MyCiTi.
Free travel day on 19 March
