Is your myconnect card expiring in May 2015?

If your card expires in May 2015, you can get a new myconnect card free of charge. Please note that although your card expires, your card balance does not expire and will be transferred to your new card immediately.

Look at the date on the front of your myconnect card, which has an expiry date because it is a banking product. If it says 05/15 then you may be eligible for our special FREE CARD offer – if you replace your card by 31 May 2015.

Cards expiring in May 2015

Take advantage of this limited-period FREE CARD offer. If your card has an expiry date of 05/15: 

1. Check your card balance and penalties at a station kiosk or by tapping your card at the nearby information terminals.

2. Clear any outstanding penalties at a station kiosk.

3. Visit one of the card replacement kiosks at Civic Centre and Table View stations. These dedicated kiosks will be in operation from 05:00 to 19:00 seven days a week from 10 March until 31 May 2015, and will only handle card replacements.

4. You will need to produce your expired card and ID book, passport or driver’s licence. If the myconnect card was issued to a child without one of these forms of identification, then a birth certificate is required.

5. Complete the Free Card Application Form, available for download further below. 

6. Your new myconnect card will be issued free of charge and the Standard or Mover point balance on your old card will be immediately transferred to your new card.

7. This process takes about 15 minutes. Save time by printing and completing the application form below before visiting the card replacement kiosk.

Important notes

  • If you do not replace your card by 31 May 2015, you will have to purchase a new card for R35 and wait 30 days for any balance on your card to be transferred. 
  • If your expiring card was issued free, it will be replaced at no cost. However, if you present an expiring myconnect card which you have purchased and records show that you were previously issued with a free card, then your balance will need to be transferred to that free card, or you can purchase a new myconnect card for R35 and transfer your balance to the new card. 
  • If you have not replaced your 05/15 card by 31 May 2015, it will not work on 1 June 2015.

Cards expiring at future dates

Cards expiring at later dates will not be replaced now. The next batch of 40 000 cards expire in October 2015. Watch the press from August for details around replacing these cards.
