The City of Cape Town is upping its pace this year with multiple ongoing MyCiTi infrastructure projects across the metro-south east. Residents and road users in Khayelitsha should please note that construction is coming their way in March 2025. The work is in preparation for the roll-out of the next phase of the MyCiTi bus service to link commuters from Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain with Wynberg and Claremont. The project team will be hard at work to deliver the bus lanes and other infrastructure needed.

The work will include road upgrades, road widening and intersection upgrades for improved traffic flow along Govan Mbeki Road (M9) and Japhta K Masemola Road. The extent of the construction activities for this phase will be along Japhta K Masemole Road, from the R300 bridge in the west to just east of the Mew Way intersection.

‘We invite residents to join the MyCiTi project team at the upcoming public information days where our staff will provide detailed information on what residents can expect in their areas in terms of construction activity and the predicted duration of the various work packages.

‘We ask that residents please share the details of the meetings with their neighbours as this is a chance for all to familiarise themselves with what lies ahead. We thank everyone in advance for their cooperation and patience and can assure you that the short-term inconvenience and wait will be absolutely worth it in the end once commuters are able to get onto the MyCiTi buses. The roll-out of the service to these communities compliments our efforts to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
