Fare changes and new products from 1 July 2017

On 1 July every year, there are changes to the MyCiTi tariffs, as part of the City of Cape Town’s annual budget. New travel products are also introduced to provide the best possible service

Get your card

myconnect cards

You need a myconnect card loaded with money for travel. The myconnect card is a bank card which expires. Get yours from station kiosks and participating retailers. 

New myconnect card: R35
Replace expiring myconnect card: R22

Single-trip cards

This alternative to the myconnect card includes one journey anywhere on the system within two years of purchase. Get yours from MyCiTi station kiosks and special dispensers in some stations. Remember to get two if you are making a return journey. Single-trip cards are non-refundable.

Load a package

Mover packages

Mover saves you at least 30% on fares at all times. From 1 July, the Mover 30 will be replaced by Mover 35 (R35). There are also two new Mover packages, Mover 60 (R60) and Mover 300 (R300). Load Mover at station kiosks, participating retailers and cashaccepting Absa ATMs.

Off-Peak Travel packages - NEW

Explore the city with one-day (OPT1), three-day (OPT3) and seven-day (OPT7) Off-Peak Travel packages offering unlimited travel outside weekday peak times, and all day on weekends and public holidays. Load an OPT1, OPT3 or OPT7 at station kiosks, choose a start date and travel anywhere except the Airport, as much as you wish.You can also load these packages incuding travel to the Airport and make up to four journeys a day.

OPT7: R206 (R291 including Airport)

Day Pass - NEW

Load a one-day, three-day, or seven-day pass and enjoy unlimited travel anywhere, at any time of day. You can also load these packages including travel to the Airport and make up to four journeys a day.

One-day Pass: R94 (R162 including Airport)
Three-day Pass: R234 (R302 including Airport)  
Seven-day Pass: R514 (R582 including Airport)

Monthly Pass - NEW

Enjoy unlimited travel anywhere, including the Airport, on any day and at any time for one month from a start date of your choice. Load this on your myconnect card at station kiosks and simply top up every month, tapping in and out as much as you like.

MyCiTi has a distance-based fare system with various distance bands – the further you travel the more you will pay. Fares from 1 July 2017 for a one-way journey are as follows:

Penalty charges apply if you do not tap in or out correctly.

Terms and conditions

All fares are subject to terms and conditions. Fares may also be raised when the price of low-sulphur diesel is increased substantially. There is also provision to adjust some of the tariffs if significant abuse of the system is detected.
