MyCiTi's annual fare increase takes effect on 1 July 2016. Find out below how these changes will affect you.

2016/17 Fares

MyCiTi has a distance-based fare system. Fares are based on the distance travelled from where you tap in when you start your journey to where you tap out at your final destination. New fares for a one-way journey, including transfers are indicated below.

Monthly Pass

The monthly package offering two journeys per day will be discontinued and the new MyCiTi Monthly Pass will introduced offering unlimited travel – go as far as you wish, as often as you want, whenever you want. Load a Monthly Pass onto your myconnect card and enjoy your month-long ticket-to-ride for only R710, or R930 to include travel to and from the Airport. You’ll only need to top up once a month and simply tap in and tap out, without ever risking a penalty. Find out more here

2016/17 Airport Fares

Fares for journeys connecting with the Airport are based on the distance travelled and an additional charge when users tap in or tap out at the Airport. 

myconnect card

Each passenger needs their own myconnect card loaded with value to travel with MyCiTi. 

The price of a myconnect card remains unchanged at R30 each. 

Single-trip card

Aimed at once-off and occasional users, single-trip cards are are valid for one journey only, including transfers.

The single-trip card (excluding Airport connection) remains unchanged at R35. The single-trip card (including Airport connections) will now cost R90.

Penalties

Penalties are charged when passengers don't tap in and tap out correctly. 

A R10 penalty will continue to be charged for the first three instances and thereafter R22. The penalty for incorrectly tapping on journeys connecting with the Airport will now cost R92. 

The penalty for fare evasion will now cost R307. 

A R1 500 racketeering penalty has also be introduced for anyone found re-selling myconnect cards or value. Customers should only buy cards and load value at MyCiTi stations and from participating retailers.
