Changes to Atlantis services

Since the launch of new routes in the Atlantis area in July, many more passengers are using MyCiTi’s safe, reliable services – and a number of improvements are in the pipeline to ensure that the service responds to the needs of residents.

When new MyCiTi routes are rolled out, feedback from passengers is taken into consideration and changes may be made to optimise the services. Soon after the launch of new services in Atlantis in July, changes were made to the MyCiTi timetables to better serve these commuters.

During the past few weeks, officials from Transport for Cape Town, the City’s transport authority, also attended five community meetings in Atlantis, Mamre and Pella to engage with residents about the service and to take note of their comments.

‘We took their suggestions to heart and have made some adjustments to the MyCiTi routes and stops. These changes will be implemented over the next eight weeks. I want to thank our residents for contributing to the fine-tuning of the service as the success of this roll-out depends on us working together,’ said Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.

5 September

Changes will take place as follows:

• Route 232 – every second bus will make a 2 km loop along Acacia Crescent in Protea Park, stopping at six new temporary bus stops.
• Route 233 – every second bus will make a loop of approximately 1.43 km along Hoop Crescent in Saxonsea. Buses will stop at three temporary stops along the loop.
• Route 235 – two temporary stops will be added and some trips will be an extension of the T03 route, providing a more direct service for Pella residents.
• Route 237 – the route will now run in both directions, adding 2.3 km in each direction with three temporary stops along Swift Street, as well as one along Swawel Street and another along Magnolia Street in Robinvale.

This 8 km extension of routes in Protea Park, Saxonsea and Robinvale brings stops within walking distance (about 500 m) of residents’ homes. The 16 temporary bus stops will be made permanent once the demand along the new routes has been tested and confirmed.

Changes will be made to routes 234 and 236, with later services introduced in Mamre, Pella, Protea Park, Beacon Hill and Sherwood. Watch the press for details.
