Card promotion extended

Residents in Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha have embraced the roll-out of the MyCiTi N2 Express service, with thousands of trips being recorded in the first few days after it launched on 12 July 2014.

With the problems currently being experienced with Metrorail services in the city and particularly in the metro south east, MyCiTi has decided to extend its special myconnect card offering until the end of August.

The special promotion allows anyone to buy 30 Mover points and get their myconnect card free. All they need is R30 in cash for the 30 Mover points to pay for their fares, and proof of identity.

“We are acutely aware of the fact that some of these households have already spent a significant proportion of their income on Metrorail tickets and therefore do not have extra resources to buy a myconnect card to travel on the N2 Express service. We believe these free cards will go a long way towards giving more residents access to the MyCiTi service,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.

Transport for Cape Town (TCT) will also deploy an additional six to eight MyCiTi buses on the Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain routes on weekdays, providing an alternative for commuters who need to travel between the Cape Flats and the Cape Town city centre.

The special myconnect card promotions will take place until 30 August 2014 from 08:30 until 16:30 daily, at the following venues:

• In Khayelitsha, at the Desmond Tutu Hall on the corner of Japhta Masemola and Cekeca Roads; and at the Khayelitsha Multipurpose Centre on the corner of Walter Sisulu and Steve Biko Roads.
• In Mitchells Plain at the Golden Arrow Bus Service kiosk at the public transport interchange in the Town Centre.
