Cape Town Cycle Tour: Your wheels are welcome
2017-03-03
Cape Town welcomes cyclists and their families and friends to one of the city’s greatest annual events – and MyCiTi is here to make getting around easy and fun.
MyCiTi is Cape Town’s convenient bus system operating between the Airport and the city centre, the V&A Waterfront, the city bowl and surrounds, Atlantic Seaboard suburbs as far south as Hout Bay and up the West Coast all the way to Atlantis. Apart from scenic routes, world-famous beaches and great restaurants, you can also access many fun activities on the MyCiTi network, as well as get to the Cycle Tour expo at Cape Town Stadium and some of the spectator points on race day. Routes also intersect with extensive cycle lanes along the West Coast, as far as Bloubergstrand and Melkbosstrand, and other training routes. And, unlike many other public transport systems, bicycles are welcome on MyCiTi buses – free of charge.
Using MyCiTi
Before you hop on board, you will need to get a myconnect card for R30 from selected MyCiTi stations and load it with money. Take a tip from the locals and ask for Mover packages, which save you 30% on fares, no matter what time of the day you travel. To start your journey, tap in with your card as you enter through gates at a station or on the IN validator when you board a bus, and tap out again on the OUT validator when you leave. Your fare is based on the distance you travel, including transfers from one route to another at stations and stops made within 45 minutes.
Connecting with the Airport
MyCiTi is one of the most cost-effective ways of connecting with the Airport. Buses depart from the Airport station outside the arrivals and departures terminal and from Civic Centre station every 30 minutes.
