MyCiTi is Cape Town’s bus rapid transit system, operating between the Airport and the city centre, the V&A Waterfront, the city bowl and surrounds, Atlantic Seaboard suburbs as far south as Hout Bay and up the West Coast all the way to Atlantis. It’s the most convenient way to get around the city – and the good news is that you can take your bicycle on the bus.

Apart from scenic routes, world-famous beaches and great restaurants, with MyCiTi you can also access some of the spectator points along the magnificent cycle tour route on the big day.

Promoting non-motorised transport and providing infrastructure for safe cycling is a priority. There are networks of cycling routes extending right across the city, which provide daily transport, recreational cycling and training opportunities.

Some of the main MyCiTi routes also intersect with more than 60 kms of cycle lanes along the West Coast, in particular, as far as Bloubergstrand and Melkbosstrand, and other popular cyclist training routes, such as along the Atlantic Seaboard. And, unlike many other public transport systems, there’s the advantage that bicycles are welcome on MyCiTi buses – free of charge.

Race-day tips and MyCiTi shuttle service

  • Warm up your muscles with an early morning cycle to the starting area in central Cape Town, rather than travelling by private car. There are cycle routes from the West Coast suburbs, along the Atlantic Seaboard, and from the southern suburbs along Albert Road.
  • Encourage supporters to get a myconnect card and use MyCiTi to reach scenic viewing points at Camps Bay and to get to the finish area. This will help reduce traffic on the road and parking issues along the route.
  • Use the special MyCiTi Cape Town Cycle Tour event service. This service is free and you don’t require a myconnect card to use the buses.

MyCiTi route deviations

MyCiTi services will be affected on Saturday 10 March and Sunday 11 March 2018 due to road closures for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Read more
