A MyCiTi station manager put in more than a good day’s work recently when he helped deliver a healthy baby boy at Omuramba station.
Xolani Stofile, the station manager of MyCiTi’s Omuramba station was given a Certificate of Excellence after he came to the mother’s rescue and helped deliver her baby at the station.
Baby Gilbert Gabriel Chirwa was born on 14 March 2016 after Xolani noticed the visibly distressed mother while conducting an on-site visit at the station in Racecourse Road, Table View. The woman was standing close to the toilet and he saw that she was in pain.
Xolani was able to put his first aid training to good use and has been praised for his quick thinking and speedy response to the situation.
The certificate was presented to Xolani by Mayoral Committee Member for Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron with the Chirwa family in attendance too.
Councillor Herron praised the station manager, saying that this was the type of quality service that MyCiTi aims to deliver.
The parents also expressed their gratitude to the station manager and everyone who assisted in the delivery of their baby.
