MyCiTi passenger numbers increase by 39%
2013-09-19
Research undertaken over the past five months has given a clear indication not only of MyCiTi’s success in its current footprint, but also of the dire need that existed for quality public transport along the west coast.
Surveys conducted in the morning peak travel period since April this year indicate that the number of passengers has increased by an average of 39%.
This is an extremely encouraging result as it indicates a huge buy-in from the public, and reinforces the decision to implement the new routes through the Table View area and surrounds to make this service more accessible to a greater number of residents in this area.
We have already increased the number of buses during the peak travelling hours to try and assist with passenger demand and to reduce the headway of these buses to about one bus every five minutes.
Continued expansion in this area will see additional routes being launched this November. This includes routes in the Melkbosstrand area, running to Duynefontein and linking to Table View via Big Bay.
The new main route between Melkbosstrand along the R27 will be opened, stopping at Table View station and then proceeding along Racecourse Road in Milnerton to Omuramba station in Montague Gardens. There will also be a route from Omuramba station through Montague Gardens and Century City to the Century City rail train station.

We are working hard to make sure the service is not only world-class, but also convenient for as many people as possible.
