MyCiTi bus service integrates with UCT Jammie shuttle service

From 17 February 2014, University of Cape Town (UCT) students and staff who use the Jammie shuttle service will now be able to connect with the MyCiTi service more easily than before.

The affected Jammie shuttle route connects the main UCT campus in Rondebosch with the university’s Hiddingh campus in Orange Street, Gardens.

From today it will be diverting off Jutland Avenue into the two Mill Street slip roads, and down to the MyCiTi Gardens station in Buitenkant Street. 

Two new Jammie bus stops, close to the MyCiTi Gardens station, will enable shuttle passengers to easily access the MyCiTi services to Vredehoek (route 101), to Oranjezicht (route 103) and to the CBD via Buitenkant Street. This also allows the same transfers in the reverse direction – from MyCiTi services onto the Jammie shuttle.

Previously, the Jammie shuttle to the Hiddingh campus offered only one transfer point to the MyCiTi service at the Michaelis stop on route 101. This meant that students and staff travelling from Oranjezicht and Vredehoek had to travel back in the direction of the CBD to catch the Jammie shuttle at the Hiddingh campus.

Jammie shuttle users can now catch the MyCiTi bus (as per the normal tariffs and as before), but without having to back-track unnecessarily. 

This new development will reduce passengers’ travel time, while ensuring that the MyCiTi routes 101 and 103, are used more extensively – with some passengers hopping off at Gardens, thus releasing seats for other passengers downstream.

This development is part of Transport for Cape Town’s goal to provide integrated public transport between modes and services and it is hoped that it will allow safer and more seamless travel.
