Don’t let the cold and rain keep you indoors this winter. Thanks to MyCiTi’s network of routes and services, your next fun activity is just a stop away.

Cape Town is well known for its sandy beaches and great iconic destination, but the activities do not stop there and travelling with MyCiTi is half the fun.

Kick start your winter fun at the V&A Waterfront, with movies, the Scratch Patch, Cave Golf and lots of child-friendly eateries.

While you’re there you could even fit in a visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium. The aquarium always has a lot going on, from guided tours to puppet shows and family sleepovers. See their holiday programme for June and July. Or watch your kids turn a mess into a masterpiece. Get their creative juices flowing at Artjamming above Toy Kingdom in Breakwater Boulevard. Put your apron on and join in, while enjoying the music. Painting, spraying, sponging – the choice is yours. No skills required and professional artists are on-hand to assist.

The inner city also has a lot to offer. Explore the world of astronomy at the Planetarium at the Company’s Gardens, with shows aimed at children of all ages. Book early. Then take a trip back in time at the Iziko South African Museum next door, and stop for a milkshake at the Garden’s restaurant and play area.

No need to wait for the sun to come out. The Gardens Skate Park offers reprieve from the rain thanks to it being situated under the Jutland Avenue Bridge. The park is suited to skateboarding, rollerblading and BMX-bicycling and entry is free.

See your favourite stories come to life at the Artscape Theatre, right at the MyCiTi Civic Centre station. Upcoming shows include the Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood, School Arts’ Festival, National Youth Jazz Festival, Imagine Family Magic Show, Noddy and Shakespeare Schools’ Festival.

Ward off the cold at Long Street Baths and enjoy a day of swimming in the heated 25 m pool at the indoor baths. They are open daily between 07:00 and 19:00 – and you can still get home on one of the late buses.

If a one-stop shop of fun is what you’re after, Canal Walk shopping centre is the place to be. The area boasts a games centre, cinema and a variety of winter holiday programmes. If the weather is good, Intaka Island offers fun environmental activities. MyCiTi’s new routes make it so much easier to get around Century City.

With a state-of-the-art learning environment, the Kuyasa Regional Library in Khayelitsha is not just a place of reading. It has 35 SmartCape computers, internet access and an extensive book collection in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa, plus a programme of activities.

Release some of that pent-up energy by keeping warm at Jump Around. This arena, in Paarden Eiland, has over 1000 m² of trampolines for the whole family to enjoy. Get there on the T01 between central Cape Town and Table View.

One of the Cape’s popular markets is in a warehouse in Hout Bay Harbour. The scenic bus ride along the coast is the perfect way to while away the time, and the Bay Market offers entertainment and yummy food for young and old alike. Explore the working harbour and take a run on the beach before heading home.
