The Atlantis station is now one of the busiest in the MyCiTi system, with close to 150 000 commuters boarding buses there during the month of August. The station ranked fourth in terms of passenger numbers, after the Civic Centre, Table View and Adderley stations. In total, MyCiTi has recorded 32.5 million passenger journeys since its launch in 2010. In response to the growing ridership, MyCiTi has launched several new routes in Atlantis, including 232a and 233a , along with improvements to routes 235 and 237 .

On 31 October 2015, a new route, 234a Atlantis – Mamre via Curlew Street and Montreal Drive in Beacon Hill, will be launched and there is an extension to route 236 Atlantis – Sherwood. In addition, night services will operate on three routes – 241 , 242 and 243 – to assist passengers travelling outside of normal service hours.

These services will run during weekdays, as well as weekends and public holidays. These latest improvements to the MyCiTi system come after a number of other services were rolled out in July following information sessions held with communities in Atlantis, Mamre and Pella. “Transport for Cape Town is particularly heartened by the exceptional uptake in Atlantis since 4 July 2015, with the roll-out of the remainder of the MyCiTi feeder routes and the T02 trunk route which provides residents with a direct route to the Civic Centre station,” says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.

From 1 to 31 August 2015 up to 248 318 instances of boarding and alighting have been recorded at the bus stops along the seven feeder routes in Atlantis,” he says. The changes taking place in Atlantis on 31 October include:

• Route 234a : This bus will connect with Mamre, departing from Atlantis station and stopping at Wesfleur Hospital, Beacon Hill and Sherwood along the way.

• Route 236 : The bus will make a loop along Knysna Road in Sherwood, stopping at three new stops along the loop.

Night services

These services will run from as early as 21:15pm to as late as 23:15pm, with approximately 30-minute intervals. However, along some roads the service will only run in one direction.
