New routes, stations and other changes will take place in July and August, making MyCiTi services even better for the many thousands of people who use it daily.

On 4 July 2015, several new routes will be launched in the Atlantis area, along with a direct route from Atlantis to Cape Town, via Table View ( T02 ). This will complete the rollout of MyCiTi services in the Atlantis area.

Express buses will be introduced in the morning peak along the T01 route from Dunoon, Wood and Table View stations. This will increase capacity on this popular route and help alleviate overcrowding.

A new route, 114 Civic Centre – Sea Point will travel along Main Road to Sea Point.

On 1 August a new main route will link Dunoon to Century City via Omuramba station. This will include the opening of three new stations along Koeberg Road, two in Omuramba Road and the new Century City station.

Annual fare increases will also take effect on 1 July 2015 as part of the City of Cape Town’s annual budget. However, the peak periods in both the morning and evening have been shortened by 45 minutes each, which will mean many commuters will benefit from travelling outside the peak period and will pay the lower off-peak (saver) fares. A new R530 monthly package and a R30 Mover package will be introduced. For more information about the fare increase click here

Big changes for Atlantis

The launch of new MyCiTi services in the Atlantis area on 4 July 2015 will connect to Mamre, Pella and Robinvale, and offer new ways of connecting to Table View, Century City and central Cape Town.

Passengers should note that on this date Sibanye buses will stop operating and passengers using those services will have to get a myconnect card from Atlantis station to travel on MyCiTi buses.

The new routes being launched within the Atlantis area include:

  • 234 Atlantis - Mamre
  • 235 Atlantis - Pella
  • 237 Atlantis - Robinvale

From 4 July 2015, the 239 Atlantis - Duynefontein - Melkbosstrand route will also be cancelled. Passengers who used this route will have to travel on T03 and then transfer to the 230 Duynefontein - Melkbosstrand route at Melkbosstrand station. However, the travelling time is expected to be similar.

There will also be new options for travelling outside of Atlantis. These include:

  • T02 Atlantis - Table View - Civic Centre
  • T03 Atlantis - Table View - Omuramba
  • T03a Atlantis - Table View

To travel to Century City, take T03 and change at Omuramba station to the new T04 route, to be launched in August.

Quicker link to Dunoon set to launch

On 1 August, the new T04 Dunoon – Century City route will start operating. This service will drastically reduce the time and cost of the journey between the two compared with the MyCiTi service via Table View, Racecourse and Omuramba stations.

Stopping at three new stations along Koeberg Road between Blaauwberg and Racecourse roads, buses will travel in dedicated red roads, making the journey much quicker in the heavily congested peak hours.

From Omuramba station, the route includes new stations at Phoenix and Sandrift before running along Ratanga Road to the new Century City station at the public transport interchange.

T01 express buses in the peak

From mid-July, some buses will operate as express services on this route during peak periods, starting from Dunoon or Wood stations and stopping at Table View, Racecourse and Woodstock stations on the way to Civic Centre station, before returning.

Larger 18m buses will provide more capacity and are expected to shrink the queues in periods of heavy demand. Passengers will be able to identify which are the express buses by the X01 on schedules and on the buses.
