Work is underway on the busy intersection at the top of Long Street, where it meets Kloof Street, Orange Street and Buitensingel. Work is simultaneously taking place up Kloof Street as far as Kloof Nek Road, and on Rheede Street.

These roadworks are necessary to improve the traffic flow in the area, with easier passage for MyCiTi buses and other large vehicles and an upgraded pedestrian environment

. Construction will continue until the end of the year. While all efforts will be made to limit the impact on traffic, lanes will be narrowed at times. Some work will take place after hours and at weekends to limit traffic disruption.

It is also important for motorists to note that once construction starts, and in future, there will be no right turn permitted from Kloof Street into Orange Street. Motorists wishing to travel along Orange Street from Kloof Street will have to turn right into Rheede Street, which will also be upgraded.

However, one of the improvements will be to create a dedicated lane for turning right into Kloof Street from Buitensingel.

Motorists who can use alternative routes are advised to do so. The City of Cape Town requests that motorists drive carefully through the intersection while construction is underway and thanks them for their patience during this period.
